It’s an incredible place to visit in Tulum. It offers a great experience of traditional Mexican cuisine. If you’re a foreigner, this is a place you can visit without worrying about stomach issues. The atmosphere is very pleasant, and the space is large and beautiful. The food is delicious, and the prices are reasonable. Unfortunately, the service we experienced that day was not good. Fortunately, the food made up for it.

My husband and I had dined here 2 years ago and arrived this past Valentines Day hoping the menu would be the same (because we loved it!) - it's obviously changed recently and it was just as amazing! The service from the moment we sat down was wonderful and friendly, the open air kitchen was such a treat to see and the food was delicious. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with ordering. The restaurant is a well oiled machine and you could tell people loved working there! A must try in Tulum 10/10 for sure! One of the best meals of our trip.

Been in Tulum for 3 weeks, ate out every night, and so far this is the best restaurant I’ve been to. It’s a true authentic kitchen, and the food we ordered was fantastic. We had the bean soup, short rib and eggplant quesadillas & a churro for dessert. The churro had chocolate ice cream sandwiches in between and was by far the best I’ve ever had. Good service too. Well done!

I had an incredible dining experience at this hidden gem in Tulum. The atmosphere is the perfect blend of rustic charm and tropical elegance, with beautiful open-air seating, lush greenery, and a stunning wooden bridge entry that sets the mood the moment you walk in. The décor, featuring traditional pottery and a wood-fire grill, makes the space feel authentic and warm. The food was absolutely outstanding and a true celebration of Mexican ingredients. We started with the "Grilled Corn on the Cob," which was presented beautifully in a charred corn husk and served with fresh lime and a unique salt blend. It was easily some of the best corn I've ever had—perfectly smoky and sweet. The menu offers a fantastic variety of authentic dishes, from Birria tacos with rich broth to unique options like Grilled Huitlacoche. The drink menu is equally impressive, with a massive selection of high-quality mezcals and creative house cocktails like the "Garden" and "Teporocho." I also highly recommend trying their house specialties like the Blue Corn Horchata or the Tepache for something traditional and refreshing. The service was attentive and friendly, making the entire evening feel special. If you’re looking for a place in Tulum that offers top-tier culinary quality with a relaxed, soulful vibe, this is it. I can't wait to come back!

Negro Huitlacoche is one of those rare places that actually earns its reputation—and then quietly exceeds it. From the moment you arrive, the vibe is unmistakably Tulum in the best way: low-lit, intimate, earthy, and effortlessly cool without trying too hard. It feels like a secret dinner party hosted by someone with impeccable taste. Warm candlelight, natural textures, and just enough energy in the room to feel special without being chaotic. Now, the food. Wow. Every dish feels intentional—thoughtful flavors, beautifully balanced, and deeply rooted in Mexican tradition while still feeling elevated and modern. Nothing is overworked, nothing is flashy for the sake of being flashy. It’s confident cooking. The kind where you can tell the kitchen knows exactly what it’s doing and doesn’t need to show off. The cocktails deserve their own standing ovation. Creative, complex, and perfectly executed—each one feels like it was designed to pair with the atmosphere as much as the food. Not sugary, not gimmicky—just well-crafted drinks that you actually want to sip slowly. Service was another highlight. Attentive without hovering, knowledgeable without being pretentious. The staff clearly takes pride in the experience and guides you through the menu in a way that feels helpful, not scripted. Timing was spot-on, pacing was relaxed, and the whole evening felt unrushed—which is exactly what you want on vacation. Negro Huitlacoche isn’t just a “good meal in Tulum.” It’s an experience. The kind of place you talk about afterward, recommend immediately, and quietly hope doesn’t get too overrun—though it probably will, because it’s that good. If you’re in Tulum and care even a little bit about food, atmosphere, and memorable nights, this is a must. Easily one of the standout dining experiences of the trip.

Phenomenal experience. Truly one of the best meals of my life. We had the corn on the cob appy, had dinner, and then ordered the corn again. It was that good! Not to be missed. Drinks were pitch perfect. Meal was simple ingredients in an extraordinary way.

It was incredible! Our favorites were the Costilla Tacos, Vampiro plate & the Guacamole. These all were 100/100!! The drinks were very nice from refreshing to very good mezcal options. They had live music, and the community was dancing and having a great time. We liked it that much that we came twice during our stay in Tulum. Shout out to the great service from Mariel, Moises, Armando and Octavio.

A beautiful spot with top notch food and service. I recommend making reservations to get a spot in their garden space, which is definitely the better of their two rooms. For food don't miss the corn ribs, birria tacos, and the churro dessert. The churro is an ice cream sandwich that was surprising and delicious. The service is very friendly, helpful, and constantly available. We never went more than minute of needing something and having it show up at the table. We'll definitely be back on our next trip.
